WLWM: A Movement & Safe Space

WLWM isn't just a fundraiser—it's a movement and a safe space. Here, participants can be open and vulnerable without judgment, supported by an uplifting community filled with encouragement, motivation, and even a little healthy competition.

Beyond its mission to raise awareness and support, WLWM naturally grows into a compassionate online community of health and wellness seekers. Together, participants share their stories—the struggles, the restarts, the triumphs, and even the setbacks—creating a refuge where strength is found in connection.

What makes WLWM unique is that this community doesn't end when the fundraising period does. The support, inspiration, and shared journey continue on, empowering participants to stay committed to their personal growth and well-being long after donations close.

Shlomo and Zipporah gave Ahkiron’s a loving family and permanent home by becoming his foster parents in 2008 when he was only 7 months old.

Ahkiron was a very sickly little infant with Cerebral Palsy, along with cognitive and developmental delays. He suffered from a myriad of health issues including hearing loss.

Zipporah, was his Occupational Therapist in the hospital when a social worker from Bermuda’s Department of Child and Family Services, observed her compassionate connection with Ahkiron while providing therapeutic intervention. She approached her and asked if she and her husband would consider becoming his Therapeutic Foster Parents because they were looking to form a supported foster family situation for him and he was in need of Parents that can take care of him in a loving home. She mentioned he would thrive better outside of the institutionalized setting.

Zipporah shared the situation with Shlomo, and on his initial visit to meet Ahkiron, they determined to become his parents and give him a home, family and all the love that he needed to have sanctuary and thrive.

It’s been 18 years, and Ahkiron has aged out of DCFS eligibility that legislatively dropped when he chronologically turned the legal adult age.

Due to his condition and severe developmental delays, Ahkiron is only 6 years of age cognitively. He still has a long way to go and needs the continued support both medically and therapeutically, Like DCFS has long provided.

Unfortunately, being dropped from his eligibility for continued care coverage leaves Shlomo and Zipporah in a situation to garner community support in order to fundraise for his extraordinary care expenses.

The couple has legally become his permanent Receiver Guardians under the British legal system in Bermuda, and have dedicated the rest of their lives to make sure Ahkiron continues to be safe, thrive and have sanctuary within a permanent family structure.

Weight Loss Way Makers was formed as a marketing initiative for Ahkiron’s Journey Annual Fundraiser. They as a couple have always struggled throughout their lives to maintain a health weight.

In their dedication to Ahkiron, and as a way to raise funds to continue to support Ahkiron’s acute needs, they have set out to lose their weight in order to receive funds pledged for each pound loss in order to raise financial resources to continue Ahkiron’s care.
